Red-winged Blackbird Agelaius phoeniceus L 8 3/4″ (22 cm)
Immature females are heavily streaked with white underside and sometimes with a yellowish throat. A mature female looks similar to a 1st year male but with a white streaked throat. Song is a liquid, gurgling konk-la-reee ending with a trill. Common call is a chack note, a loud whistle and a high pitched liquidy trill. Their very vocal, abundent, aggressive and often seen in immense flocks in winter. Range is in thick vegetation by freshwater marshes, sloughs and dry fields. They forage in surrounding fields, orchards and woodlands. Noted for raiding birdfeeders.
