Mourning Dove Zenaida macroura L 12″ (31 cm)
Trim-bodied with long taipering tail. Black spots under wing & pinkish wash bellow- like a China mauve colour. In flight has white tips on outer tail. Juvenile is heavily spoted brown & black & scaled on wings. Call is a “mournfull” oowoo-woo-woo-woo. Wings produce a fluttering whistle as the bird flies. Range is abundant & widespread, perfering the country side as apposed to it’s cousin- the Rock Dove. They like to eat seeds & corn and are very shy birds.
